Matthew misspent his childhood whilst raised in the County of Kent. School provided a visual and musical background but it was hanging round with local artists; the Medway Stuckists, (who numbered Tracey Emin amongst their ranks) that provided the entertainment. An art school education followed, culminating in a post-graduate course in theatre design at the Almedia theatre.
It was a career in film, art direction, theatre and interior design that ensued. Whilst decorating Mario Testino’s apartment in Paris, he was encouraged, (under the guidance of Patrick Kinmonth) to work with Mario’s on his burgeoning career. This ultimately led to working with many other great photographers thus finding the career and discipline in which he feels most comfortable.
His approach is broad with a strong respect for the story within the project. Matthew believes that visual storytelling is very powerful within the photographic context and it is that which drives his work and passion.
