At 17-years old Dennis
DeVoy already knew he wanted to be a professional hairstylist and
began to work towards this goal.
He arrived in New York from his home state
of Wisconsin in 1994 and immediately started to stake his claim
in the industry. He spent four years honing his skills at famed
salon Garren, during which time he also built up his portfolio by
assisting freelance hairstylists.
Since making the transition to working solely
as a freelance hair stylist, DeVoy has found himself in demand working
with some of the most prominent photographers in the fashion and
beauty industries including Nathaniel Goldberg, Annie Leibovitz,
David Bailey, Tom Munro, Patrick Demarchelier, Arthur Elgort, Irving
Penn, Horst Diekgerdes, Jenny Gage & Tom Betterton, Richard
Avedon, Glen Luchford, Enrique Badulescu, and Stephane Sednaoui.
DeVoy’s advertising credits are just
as extensive with his expertise being sought out by such notable
brands as L’Oreal, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger,
Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s New York,
Saks Fifth Avenue, Perry Ellis, BCBG, Max Mara, Charles David, Liz
Claiborne, Aeropostale, American Eagle and Abercrombie & Fitch
among others. While his editorial work is featured in many of the
world’s leading magazines such as Vogue, L'Uomo
Vogue, Vogue Nippon, Vogue China, Teen
Vogue, W, Harper’s Bazaar, Another
Magazine, V, Numero, Flair, 10
and The New York Times.
Another indicator of DeVoy’s talent is
the impressive list of celebrities with whom he has worked. Among
his favorites are David Bowie, Tilda Swinton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chloe
Sevigny, Lauren Hutton, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman and
Chan Marshal (of the music group Cat Power).
