Born and raised in Japan, Ayami Nishimura moved to London in 1993 where she began work as a salon hairstylist. In 1996, she started her career as a make-up artist becoming involved with fashion shoots that enabled her to discover her real talent.
Self-taught, Ayami takes her inspiration from the passion she sees in people's faces, as well as playing with colour. She is also influenced by film, painting, photography, fashion, people and nature, and has developed her own unique style that is edgy at the same time as being classically beautiful. Her creative work has been published in titles such as British Vogue, Chinese Vogue, Japanese Vogue, Dazed & Confused, 10 Magazine, i-D, Another Magazine, Arena Homme+, Teen Vogue, Muse and V.
She collaborates with many photographers including; Mariano Vivanco, Ben Hassett, Benjamin Huseby Alexander, Andreas Larsson, David Slijper, Pierre Bailly William Selden, Jonathan De Villiers, Hans Feurer, Paul Wetherell, Takay, Magnus Unner and Will Davidson.
Ayami has contributed to various ad campaigns such as; UniQlo, Cesare Paciotti, Dolce Gabbana, Nike, Custo, No.l.ita, Armani Jeans, Vivienne Westwood, Giorgio Armani, Exte, Puma, Edwin Sinéquanone & Iceberg Jeans,
Ayami is also the favorite make-up artist of Alison Goldfrapp, and has worked with the singer since 2000.
Ayami is currently based in London and travels frequently to Europe and New York. |
